Video: 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213) CKD To Launch On 20 Apr?

It’s interesting times for the premium executive buyer in Malaysia. Last week’s launch of the all-new Volvo S90 and V90 is set to be swiftly followed by the all-new G30 BMW 5 Series tomorrow. The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which was newly-launched only last year, suddenly finds itself becoming the segment’s elder statesperson.

Well, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia still has an ace up its sleeve. On the eve of the launch of the E-Class’ greatest rival, a teaser video pops up on Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s official Facebook page announcing the coming of ‘The next Masterpiece of Intelligence’ on 20 April.

As we all know, The Masterpiece of Intelligence is Mercedes-Benz’s marketing tagline for the current generation E-Class, so the video quite obviously insinuates at the arrival of a new E-Class variant, but what?

It could be the E-Class Coupe, but we are more likely looking at the roll-out of CKD variants of the E-Class Sedan which, as twice reported earlier on Carlist.my, was slated for a Q1 2017 launch.

There is no official word on the CKD model mix, but the current CBU line-up of the E-Class consists of the 184hp E200, 211hp E250, and 245hp E300. We expect the plug-in hybrid E350e to join the party either in conjunction with the CKD launch or at a later date, benefitting from EEV tax incentives.
