Toyota issues recall over airbag system woes. Only one Lexus LX 470 affected in Malaysia.

Toyota Motor Corporation announced yesterday that it is organising a global recall campaign for certain Toyota and Lexus models to rectify an airbag system issue. 

The company said that the recall is for models which are equipped with side Curtain Shield Airbags (CSA).

As for Malaysia, no Toyotas were affected all units sold here come without with CSAs.

However, TMC has confirmed that only one Lexus; which is an LX470 is to be recalled and the owner of the vehicle will be contacted on the matter by Lexus Malaysia. Other Lexus models sold by the company are not affected.

According to Toyota, the vehicles involved are facing the risk of experiencing unexpected activation of the curtain shield airbags even while the vehicle is stationary, due to improper programing of the airbag system in the airbag control module.

TMC said that it is currently preparing the necessary remedial parts which will be shipped to authorised distributors worldwide, and that a special service campaign will be announced when the parts are available.
