Renault Introduces New Generation Petrol Engine, To Be Introduced In Various Models In 2018

Renault has introduced a new direct injection turbocharged 1.3 petrol engine. 

Set to be offered first in the 2018 Scenic and Grand Scenic next year with a choice of three power levels - TCe 115 manual, TCe 140 and TCe 160 manual/ EDC automatic – the new engine will be progressively offered in the Renault range throughout 2018 in a variety of power ratings between 115 hp and 160 hp.

"Compared with the Energy TCe 130, the new Energy TCe 140 delivers 35 Nm additional peak torque which is available across a broader rev band, from 1,500 rpm to 3,500 rpm," said Philippe Brunet, Alliance’s Global Vice President of Powertrain and Electric Vehicles division.

Co-developed with Nissan and Daimler, the engine features Bore Spray Coating, a cylinder coating technology from the Nissan GT-R engine which improves efficiency by reducing friction and optimising heat transfer.

Other technologies include increased direct fuel injection pressure and a specific combustion chamber design which improves the fuel and air mixture.

In addition, the ‘Dual Variable Timing Camshaft’ technology controls the intake and exhaust valves according to engine loads.

According to Renault, the result is more torque at low revs and more linear torque available at high revs, for significant benefit in terms of driving comfort with better mid-range response.
