Proton X70- Segment Leader In January With 2,777 Units Sold

Deliveries of the Proton X70 have gathered pace as more units of the new fully-imported SUV become available. Last month, the new X70 set a Malaysian record for most registrations by an SUV model in its launch month with over 1,300 units.

For January 2019, Proton managed to deliver 2,777 units, another new record which the company says it’s the highest number of registrations for a C-segment SUV (Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Nissan X-Trail, Mitsubishi ASX, Volkswagen Tiguan) in a single calendar month.

Combining the sales with the contemporary models, the company achieved another strong month of sales with 7,007 units, which Proton estimates should place them at a market share of 14.5%.

“Proton is thankful to be able to start 2019 on a positive note. We already knew we would end the month with the most 3S/4S outlets in the industry (74) but the market leading sales growth rate figure and the record-setting number of SUV registrations is due to the humbling support we have received from Malaysian car buyers,” said Dr Li Chunrong, CEO of Proton.

“There is still a long way to go for the brand to fully recover but we will strive to continue to deliver a premium experience at our outlets while improving our model offerings,” added Dr Li.

In conjunction with the Chinese New Year festive period, Proton is offering savings of up to RM4,000 depending on the model.
