"We are honoured to join Porsche in celebrating its 70th anniversary in conjunction with the launch of the new 911 GT2 RS," he continues. At the heart of the 911 GT2 RS is a turbocharged 3.8-litre flat-six engine, also found on the 911 Turbo S model, fettled to produce a whopping 700 hp courtesy of larger turbochargers and an upgraded cooling system.Peak torque is rated at 750 Nm, identical to that of the 911 Turbo S during overboost, however, the GT2 RS produces 120 hp more than the Turbo S (580 hp) and 80 hp more than its (997.2-generation) predecessor. The engine is mated to a customised seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK) which drives the rear wheels.Weighing in at 1,470 kg with a full fuel tank, the GT2 RS accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds onto a top speed of 340 km/h. The GT2 RS’ awesome real-world performance recently earned it the title as the fastest street-legal sports car on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, smashing the previous lap record, set with the Lamborghini Huracan Performante by five seconds. In terms of handling, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS receives 265/35ZR20 tires up front and massive 325/30ZR21 tires at the rear. Porsche have also equipped the GT2 RS with the company’s rear-axle steering system and a specially calibrated 'Sport' mode for the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) program to offer optimal driving dynamics. The 911 GT2 RS comes fitted with the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) system as standard.Visually, the GT2 RS is much like its track-focussed sibling, the GT3 RS – the front wings, wheel housing vents, outer shells on the 'Sport Design' wing mirrors, air intakes on the rear side sections and parts of the rear end are made from carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). The bonnet is also made from carbon while the roof is made from magnesium to keep weight down.Optionally, customers can spec the optional Weissach package, which provides a further weight saving of around 30 kilograms. The package includes additional elements made from CFRP and titanium, while the roof, anti-roll bars and coupling rods on both axles are made from carbon. Magnesium wheels further reduce the unsprung weight of the car. Additionally, the luggage compartment lid and the carbon-roof will be emblazoned with a central strip in the same colour as the car for a visually distinctive look.On the inside, the 911 GT2 RS is about the business of going fast, dominated by full bucket seats contrasted by red Alcantara trim appointments and carbon-weave elements. The GT2 RS also features a sports steering wheel as standard. As with every 911, the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is the central control unit for audio, navigation, and connectivity. The Connect Plus module and Porsche Track Precision app are also included as standard, enabling detailed recording, display, and analysis of driving data on a smartphone. The optional Chrono Package expands the PCM functions to include performance display, which can be used to display, save and evaluate track times. The Chrono Package on the 911 GT2 RS comes with a lap trigger which works with Porsche Track Precision app in conjunction with external markers on the start/finish straight, to enable drivers to record lap times with extreme accuracy. If you have trouble telling a 911 Targa from a Carrera, or wonder what’s the difference between 911 GT3 and GT3 RS, check out our comprehensive and somewhat less confusing explanation of the Porsche 911 range here.
