New Mercedes-Maybach S560 Debuts In Malaysia – From RM 1.4 million

The range topper of the S-Class range, the Maybach is an even longer, even more luxurious variant of the S-Class range. Measuring 5,462 mm long, the Mercedes-Maybach (X222) is 207 mm longer than the long wheelbase Mercedes-Benz S450L (V222), which was also launched concurrently with this Maybach. Its wheelbase is also 200 mm longer than the S450L, making it the ultimate chauffeur-driven S-Class.

If you don’t already know, the Maybach brand no longer stands alone and since the beginning of the current W222 generation model, the Maybach has been a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz, thus its revised Mercedes-Maybach name, and thus carry the generation code X222. It also means that it is the three-pointed star rather than Maybach’s double-M logo that stands on the bonnet. The Maybach logo, however, is still retained at the C-pillars.

The added length also means that its rear doors are bespoke. Unlike regular S-Class models, the door lines on a Maybach cuts across the rear three-quarter window.

Apart from the significantly larger body, the Maybach is visually differentiated further by the radiator grille’s vertical slats, thick chrome strips that surround the window lines and B-pillars, and a choice of three exclusive design 20-inch wheels.

Like the regular facelifted S-Class, the new Mercedes-Maybach S560 gets a new pair of MultiBeam LED headlamps, updated LED tail lights, new grille and bumpers.

There’s also an optional two-tone double clear coat exterior paint, exclusive only to Maybach models. It creates a brilliant surface finish with a piano lacquer effect and a special impression of depth. The second bodywork clear coat, including intermediate sanding, is intricately applied by hands of specially trained varnishers.

Inside, the leather upholstery can be trimmed in either armagnac brown/black or savanna beige/black colour combinations. The black Maybach Exclusive Nappa leather upholstery appointments can also be ordered with a choice of copper-, gold- or platinum-coloured contrasting topstitching. Also new in the range are trim inserts in designo flowing lines Magnolia wood.

All Maybachs are only available as a four-seater and the standard rear seats are Executive type individual seats. Depending on the options ticked, up to 12 motors adjusts each rear seat’s position.

The rear seats’ backrest angle can be adjusted up to 43.5 degrees. The most upright backrest position of 19 degrees allows relaxed working in the rear. The reclining seats feature a calf support, which is freely adjustable for length and angle. As standard, the luxury head restraints come with an extra cushion.

Hidden between the seats is a mini-fridge, enough for two bottles of beverage. The box that appears in the boot is the mini-fridge. Owners can also order the Maybach with Maybach-branded champagne flutes. The rear centre console cover also opens to reveal two aeroplane business class seat-style foldable tables. The cup holders ahead are capable of keeping your drinks cool or warm.

Mercedes-Benz claims the Maybach’s cabin is the quietest of any car, allowing occupants to appreciate tunes from the 27-speaker Burmester 3D surround sound system. The tweeters in front are particularly sophisticated and rotate out of the mirror triangle when the audio system is switched on.

The Burmester system also uses discretely placed microphones to pick up and amplify the voice, so conversation between occupants sitting in front and behind can remain hush.

While the regular S450L is powered by a 3.0-litre twin turbo V6 that makes 367 hp at 5,500 rpm and 500 Nm between 1,800 – 4,000 rpm, this Maybach wears the S560 badge, so it’s powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo. It’s the same M176 engine that powers the S63 and other 63 series AMG models, albeit slightly detuned to make 469 hp between 5,250 – 5,500 rpm and 700 Nm between 2,000 – 4,000 rpm.

Drive is transferred to the rear wheels via a nine-speed 9G-Tronic torque converter automatic transmission.

There’s also a 6.0-litre twin turbo V12 S650 that makes 650 hp at 5,000 rpm and 1,000 Nm between 2,300 – 4,200 rpm. However, it uses an older 7-speed 7G-Tronic automatic transmission to drive the rear wheels.

Of course, the Maybach S650 will cost a lot more than the Maybach S560’s RM 1.4 million. Anyway, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is unlikely to sell you a Maybach at RM 1.4 million. Tick the options, which you will have to, the actual transacted price will be a lot higher.
