After much anticipation, BMW has finally taken the wraps off the new Z4 Concept at the most posh car gathering in the world; the Pebble Beach Concours.

Set to enter production in 2018, the new Z4 Concept adopts a few design cues from the Concept 8 Series, featuring a long wheelbase, a low-slung, stretched silhouette and a compact rear end.

The car also comes with a shorter bonnet and crisper overhangs compared to the E85 and E89 Z4s, in order to ensure that the driver sits closer to the centre of the car.

Other exterior design highlights include a distinct wedge shaped body, large domes stretching out rearwards from the cabin, a ‘shark nose’ front fascia, large air intakes, L-shaped LED taillights, carbon fibre diffusers, ‘Energetic Orange’ paint, as well as 20-inch bi-colour double spoke alloy wheels.

Inside, the cabin adopts the colour of the car body, complemented by a chrome trim strip which runs across the dashboard. The driver’s seat, the door trim panels, instrument panel and the centre stack that encircle the driver are finished entirely in black, meaning that they stand out prominently from the coordinated orange shades.

The instrument cluster and central information display are now integrated into the driver’s cockpit, with two displays positioned at almost the same height to give the impression of a single, cohesive unit.

In addition to the two screens, there is also a head-up display which presents key driving information within the driver’s direct field of view.

Co-developed with Toyota, the new Z4 will share the same platform as well as the suspension setup with the new Supra. Rumour has it that both cars could share a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain but BMW has not confirmed anything since the car is still a concept.
