Mercedes-Benz Unveils Updated E-Class, AMG E53 4MATIC+ Added To Range
所有资讯After many, many months of anticipation, the Mercedes-AMG E53 4MATIC+ is finally here. It comes as part of the updated Mercedes-Benz E-Class model range for 2018, along with a new diesel model as well (which really doesn't apply to our market). The new model gets an twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-6 which produces a whopping 435 hp and 520 Nm of peak torque.
The E53 replaces the previous E43 model that has seen life here for just over a year. While the torque figures are the same at 520 Nm, the E53 produces a good 40 hp more than the E43. It comes with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission, which - if we follow Mercedes-Benz nomenclature - isn't the same as the 9G-TRONIC automatic that wer're familiar with.
What is maintained is the all-wheel drive system, hence the 4MATIC+ suffix. What's interesting for this model and the next few models to be released is the EQ Boost starter generator that will provide an extra 20 hp and 250 Nm of torque as and when a driver needs it, feeding the on-board 48 Volt system when not supplying additional performance. The primary aim of the system is to supplement the engine's performance when dealing with periods of turbo lag.
The top speed has been increased to 270 km/h, with bigger brakes to slow it down in a hurry when you're presented with obstacles ahead. The bonnet now features a power bulge while the rear has round twin-tailpipe trim elements finished in high-glass chrome. There's a sportier looking diffuser with larger fins as well.
AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension makes a return here, providing a balanced, yet firm and competent ride quality without compromising handling. Rounding out the design of this new model are 20-inch AMG alloy rims. On the inside, things remain largely the same as the E-Class interior that we know and love, albeit with an AMG-specific steering wheel that sets it apart from its contemporary E-Class variants.
