The implementation of the Total Lockdown MCO 3.0 without any surprises has raised many questions regarding what we can and cannot do? One of the burning questions that people want an answer to is whether we are allowed to carry out some exercise. Thankfully, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob addressed this during his press conference on Sunday. The straightforward answer to this is that non-contact sports are allowed between 7.00 am to 8.00 pm, but with the physical distancing SOP in mind. According to Sabri, exercise activities are allowed but restricted to non-contact sports, jogging and exercises that adhere to physical distancing SOPs of being two to three metres apart. "The activities can be performed in the neighbourhood but are subjected to the movement control order that is currently in force," Sabri said. We understand this to mean that only exercises such as solo jogging and cycling within a neighbourhood are allowed. The much-loved activity of group jogging and cycling is not. But, the MalayMail has reported that cycling is apparently not allowed. When we looked up Malaysia's National Security Council's website, under the standard operating procedures, it does inform that cycling is permitted. However, this is a general guideline and it does state that 'SOP Am Perintah Kawalan Pergerakan (PKP) dan SEMUA SOP PKP yang akan berkuatkuasa bermula pada 1 JUN 2021 akan dikemaskini dalam masa yang terdekat ini. Sekian Terima Kasih.' Ministry of Youth and Sports' (KBS) social media post also seems to support MalayMail's claim of no cycling allowed, as it states that 'Aktiviti yang dibenarkan hanya terhad kepada joging dan senaman secara individu'. Till we get a clearer picture from Sabri, perhaps it's best to forgo any outdoor cycling activities. For your convenience, here is a guideline picked directly from the National Security Council (MKN) regarding permitted sporting activities. And here's a guideline of what is forbidden. Most importantly, stay safe, stay home, exercise kalau perlu tapi follow SOP Total Lockdown 3.0 dan jangan lupa #kitajagakita!
