KLIMS 2018: Hyundai Previews All-New Accent – Possible Re-Introduction?

Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM), the official distributor of Hyundai vehicles here in Malaysia has previewed a couple of concepts and upcoming models at the ongoing 2018 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (2018 KLIMS), including the hot i30 N.

One of the models on display includes the Hyundai Accent, a B-segment sedan that is aimed squarely at the Toyota Vios, Mazda 2 Sedan, and Honda City. 

From the exterior, the Hyundai Accent’s design is inspired by the sixth-generation AD Elantra, albeit in a shrunken-down form. A pair of projector headlights with LED daytime running lights (DRLs) flank the company’s signature cascading grille. Chrome elements can be found on the grille and front fog light surrounds.

Move to the rear and it is evident that Hyundai has taken cues from its Elantra when designing the Accent, with its sharp tail lights surrounding a large recess in the tailgate for the number plate. The bottom half of the rear bumper receives a simple, yet tastefully designed trim piece.

The Hyundai Accent shares its 1.4-litre Kappa four-cylinder petrol engine with the Kia Rio, churning out 100 PS at 6,000 rpm and 132 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic.

Standard equipment of the all-new Hyundai Accent includes:

• Six airbags
• Electronic Stability Control (ESC0
• Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)
• 3.5-inch multi-info display
• 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system
• Reverse camera
• Push start button with smart key
• Front and rear parking sensors
• Cruise control

Do keep in mind that the Hyundai Accent that HSDM brought out is merely a preview to gauge public interest with the new model.

If priced right, the Accent could prove to be a viable alternative to the usual suspects in the B-segment category.
