Hyundai Unveils Futuristic Vision G Concept

Korean automaker Hyundai has some big plans for its upmarket offerings, at least if their new Genesis is anything to go by. They’re looking a coupe offering too, and this HCD-16 Vision G Coupe Concept could preview that.

Interestingly, Hyundai decided to reveal the car a little early at the Los Angeles Museum of Modern Art. Initially, we were only meant to catch a glimpse of the car – which may be our first look at Hyundai’s next-generation of their Fluidic Sculpture design language – at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

Design chief of Hyundai-Kia, Peter Schreyer, says the Vision G represents “a DNA that balances design and performance with the idea that you don't need to be over the top in terms of glitz and stereotypical luxury cues.”

It certainly is striking with its sloping roofline, sculpted body, long hood, and gaping front grille whale shark-like cues.

Powering the Vision G Concept sits a 5.0-litre Tau V8 engine that outputs 420hp and 520Nm of torque. We’re not sure yet how far Hyundai might go to make this car a production reality, or whether this heralds this imminent arrival of a replacement for the Genesis Coupe. Certainly has the right design chops to fill such a role.

Enjoy the gallery below. What do you think of the design? Is it a winner?
