Geely Borui GE Launched In China, Powered By Volvo Powertrains

Geely has introduced a new addition to its flagship Borui range. Known the Borui GE, the D-segment sedan can either be had as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or a mild hybrid (MHEV).

In terms of powertrain, the plug-in hybrid version features a Volvo Drive-E 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine combined to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), battery pack and electric motor. Combined system output for the PHEV variant is 257 hp and 425 Nm, while returning a fuel consumption rating of 1.6-litre/100 km.

As for the mild hybrid version of the Borui GE, the powertrain is similar to the PHEV variant, but with a 48V electrical system. This engine is good for 180 hp, while the Integrated Belt Starter Generator (iBSG) contributes another 16 hp and 50 Nm, allowing for a combined system output of 190 hp and 300 Nm.

Unlike the T8 variant of Volvo models which are eAWD, both variants of the Borui GE are front-wheel drive only.

The Geely Borui GE PHEV can achieve up to 120 km/h on electric power alone. In addition to that, Geely also mentioned that the Borui GE PHEV can travel up to 60 km with batteries alone.

Underneath, the Geely Borui GE features double wishbone front suspension and a multilink rear suspension configuration. Wheel size ranges from 17- to 19-inches for the Borui GE, depending on variant.

Safety equipment is also rather generous, as both variants the Borui GE can be had with:

• Up to seven airbags, including a driver knee airbag
• Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
• Side View Assist (Blind Spot Monitoring)
• Lane Departure Warning
• Autonomous Emergency Braking
• Collision Warning
• Adaptive Cruise Control (Intelligent Cruise Control)
• Traffic Jam Assist 
• 360 Degree Camera
• Auto Parking Assist

As for its infotainment system, the centrally-mounted touchscreen display is available in sizes of between 10.2- and 12.3-inches. A Harman Kardon premium sound system is fitted to range-topping variants of the Borui GE. The infotainment system also supports Baidu CarLife and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Similar to the BMW 7 Series’ Display Key, the Geely Borui GE also features a smart key with a 2-inch display, which can control these features:

• Seat heaters
• Car’s location
• Lights
• Remaining range
• Air-conditioning
• Trunk opening
• Windows
• Door locks

In China, the Geely Borui has a base price of CNY 133,680 (RM82,777) for the mild hybrid variant, while the plug-in hybrid variant carries a base price of CNY 199,800 (RM123,720). The mild hybrid variant’s price tops out at CNY 179,800 (RM111,335), while the plug-in hybrid Borui GE tops out at CNY 232,800 (RM144,154). Note that these prices are only possible with incentives from the Chinese government for China-made 'New Energy Vehicle' (NEV).
