Ford Officially Launches the Ford Mustang for Malaysia; From RM488k

We earlier reported that that Sime Darby had opened bookings for the Ford Mustang, but the cars have finally arrived and are available for purchase now. There are two variants of the Mustang for now - the full fat 5.0-litre V8 model and the 2.3-litre EcoBoost.

The former has a solid 416 PS and 530 Nm of torque, while the latter has a respectable 317 PS and 432 Nm of torque. Prices start at RM488,888 for the 2.3-litre EcoBoost and RM598,888 for the 5.0-litre V8.

The Mustang is an extremely important part of the Ford Motor Company history, being the pinnacle of performance for them short of the Ford GT that has only been present for brief periods of time. The car is as iconic as the brand itself, becoming extremely popular in films and television and virtually defining the American muscle car.

This generation sees the introduction of turbocharging and independent rear suspension to the range, which brings the Mustang well up to current technological standards. The EcoBoost motor is something we have seen evolve over the last few years, applied to most of Ford’s performance oriented products. While they may not have the character of a burly V8 motor, they still offer usable effective performance that works in a larger range of situations.

Perhaps the only unfortunate thing is that our local Mustangs will only be made available with the 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. There is no manual option (for now), but Ford is confident that the transmission can deliver the same fun as a manual with far more convenience. The Mustang is also packaged with 8 airbags and the SYNC2 system, making it just as safe and sophisticated as other luxury offerings.

The Ford Mustang is priced at RM 488,888 for the 2.3-litre Ecoboost and RM 598,888 for the 5.0-litre V8, on the road without insurance. Both models are available in a wide range of colours: Race Red, Oxford White, Shadow Black, Deep Impact Blue, and Magnetic Grey. The 5.0-litre model also has the option of a Yellow Tri-Coat colour.
