Blind Mechanic Drives For The First Time, Thanks To Mercedes-Benz

Blind since birth, Bart Hickey's tremendous passion for cars led him to open his workshop in Alsip, Illinois, USA. His son, Brendan, has been helping him with the business that includes towing and repair work.

With three decades of experience working with cars, Bart has yet to actually drive a car due to his blindness. 

When Mercedes-Benz got information of Bart’s simple dream to drive a car, they facilitated a drive session by letting Bart loose in a 585-horsepower Mercedes AMG GT R on a dried-up lake in Oregon.

After a quick briefing and training session to familiarize himself with the GT R, Bart took the controls, with Brendon sitting alongside in the flagship Mercedes-AMG Coupe.

Bart accelerated the Mercedes-AMG GT R to over 200 km/h on the vast expanse of the dry desert.

Well done to Mercedes-Benz for making driving finally a dream come true for Bart Hickey!
