Most comments on Carlist.my's Facebook regarding the two vehicles, saw people siding with the Geely Jiaji as it is seen as the more suitable choice. They mostly preferred it as its design is more practical for families as it sits lower to the ground than the higher-riding Haoyue or Proton X90. However, some have also voiced their opinion that Proton should bring in the Jiaji as an MPV with sliding doors to add to its practical value. With that being said, what is it about the Geely Jiaji that has got people interested? Let's explore what you need to know about the Geely Jiaji (Proton V70) and see what the fuss is all about. 1. Geely's ethos behind the MPV According to Geely, the Jiaji combines the "sleekness of a sedan, the power of an SUV, and the space of an MPV." While it's hard to execute this flawlessly, we believe they have managed to produce what they have promised. The design of the V70 is sharp and sleek, the powertrains are quite torquey, and the MPV is spacious. 2. Exterior - It's more prominent than the current Exora but not as bulky as some big MPVs The Geely Jiaji is a larger and wider MPV than the current Proton Exora. However, it's a bit more compact than other MPVs such as the Toyota Alphard and KIA Carnival, making it easier to maneuver. The front features a Geely Expanding Cosmos grille accompanied by LED lights with chrome stripes underneath. The design is simple but still looks modern. Like most premium MPVs these days, the A-pillars are darkened to give the impression of a floating roof. 3. Interior - modern design and tech as well as a futuristic floating centre console The Geely Jiaji features a premium interior with a 12.3-inch floating infotainment display screen. The design of the floating centre console and broad dashboard emphasizes the aspect of spaciousness in the MPV. The Jiaji also features a full panoramic sunroof, head-up display, active noise cancellation and an AQS air purification system. 4. Seating Options - 5 or 6 seater In its homeland, the Jiaji MPV is offered either as a six or seven-seater MPV. You can have it either in a 2+2+2 or 2+2+3 or a 2+3+2 configuration. What's impressive is that the second-row captain's chairs on the first two layouts can recline 165 degrees to give you a good resting position. They also come with a unique "sleep" headrest which helps with snoozing on long trips. 5. Powertrain - Small but torquey The Geely Jiaji is offered with two engine options. The first is a 1.8-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that provides an output of 185 PS and 300 Nm coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second is a 1.5-litre turbo engine developed with Volvo, producing 174 PS and 255 Nm of torque with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The DCT equipped engine can be had with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, which bumps its power up to 191 PS and 300 Nm of torque, but we won't go into that as Proton is unlikely to consider it as an option. 6. Safety - Extensive amount of safety features Just like the Proton X50, the Jiaji comes with an array of safety gear. These include eight airbags, Level 2 autonomous driving, adaptive cruise control with stop-go function, lane centring with turn assistance, electronic stability control, rear and front collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change assistance, blind spot detector, and intelligent high beam control. 7. Price - It might be more expensive than the X70 In China, the Geely Jiaji is sold from around RM60k to RM111k, depending on the variant. Its price is higher than the Boyue (Proton X70), which goes from around RM58k to RM74k in China. Judging from this, we can obviously see that the MPV will probably be priced higher than the Proton X70, something that many will be disappointed to hear as the highest variant Exora (Exora Black Edition), only costs around RM70k. But then again, we are only pricing it based on a calculated assumption, but who knows, maybe Proton will find a way to make it more affordable when it arrives here.
