2023 Honda City facelift launched in India - six variants, including two e:HEVs

Honda India has launched its latest 2023 Honda City facelift model for the local market.

There are a total of six different variants to choose from, which are divided into two main categories - the 2023 Honda City petrol and Honda City e:HEV. The former carries four different variants with prices starting from ₹1149000 (around RM62,700) while the latter is priced from ₹1889000 (around RM103,200).

Minimal changes, inside & out

No big changes can be found in the 2023 Honda City facelift model for the Indian market but it has been 'refreshed' with some element changes for both exterior as well as interior. The front end sports a sporty diamond chequered grille with a carbon-wrapped lower bumper with the same set of LED headlamps.

Move towards the back and you'll notice the carbon-wrapped rear bumper diffuser to match the front end, as well as the z-shaped 3D wrap-around LED taillamps. Linking everything together is done with the same side profile, but with a new design for its 16-inch alloy wheels.

Moving on the interior, is pretty much the same but those who purchase either the petrol or hybrid variant can tell the difference by the cabin theme (beige/black combo for the petrol variants and ivory/black for the hybrids).

With that being said, the 2023 Honda City facelift does come with a 'contemporary' seat design wrapped in premium leather upholstery, soft-touch materials for the knee pad, door lining, and armrest, plus ambient lighting for the inner door handles, door pockets, and front footwells.

1.5L petrol + CVT or 1.5L hybrid + e-CVT

There are basically two different powertrain options that you can get for the 2023 Honda City facelift in India. The first one is the good ol' 1.5-litre i-VTEC DOHC petrol engine paired to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed CVT that churns out 121PS and 145Nm of torque. Fuel efficiency ratings sit at 17.8km/l (MT) and 18.4km/l (CVT).

The e:HEV variants are fitted with the 1.5 litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder i-VTEC DOHC petrol engine that acts primarily as a 98PS/127Nm generator for the e:HEV's generation motor ad the traction motor does all the heavy work in terms of propulsion with 109PS and 253Nm of torque. Honda rates the City e:HEV's combined max power at 126PS.

Like other Honda e:HEV models, there is a lock-up clutch that allows the petrol engine to directly drive the tyres at higher speeds for better efficiency. Safety-wise, the Honda Sensing package comes with:

  • Collision Mitigating Braking System
  • Road Departure Mitigation System
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with low-speed follow
  • Auto high-beam
  • Lead Departure Notification + more
