2017 Volvo S90 T8 Twin Engine CKD Open For Bookings – 2.0L PHEV, 407hp, RM349k

Having quietly started taking orders a month ago, Volvo Car Malaysia now officially announces the opening of bookings for the locally-assembled S90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription at a special introductory price of RM348,888, on-the-road without insurance.

Slightly contrary to what we reported earlier, however, Volvo Car Malaysia will continue to offer both the S90 and V90 in T6 R-Design guise alongside the new T8 flagship variant.   

Complete specifications of the S90 T8 will be released during its official launch, but it is known that the T8 Twin Engine setup, already present in the XC90, generates total outputs of 407 hp and 640 Nm.

With its hybrid batteries mounted along the centre tunnel, the S90 T8 has a 2.0-litre twincharged petrol engine driving the front wheels through an Aisin-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission. The rear wheels, are independently powered by electric motor. Volvo quotes a 0 – 100km/h time of 4.8 seconds.

Like the XC90 T8, the new S90 T8 will be exported to selected markets in the region. The oldest automotive plant in Malaysia, Volvo Car’s Shah Alam plant is set to play a key role in Volvo’s global electrification strategy that will see all Volvo models eventually feature some level of hybridization.
