2016 Audi R8 Is Ready For Launch, Deliveries To Start This Autumn

Audi will begin taking orders for their all-new 2016 R8 in Europe from May 13 with prices starting from €165,000 (RM674,256) with the cars themselves expected to ready for delivery in the autumn.

The higher of the two Audi R8 variants, the V10 Plus, commands a price tag of €187,400 (RM765,651). Now, we aren’t sure about the prices for different parts of Europe, but the prices listed here are for Audi’s home market of Germany, though fluctuations throughout Europe shouldn’t be too severe, if at all. Curiously, the R8 E-Tron’s price hasn’t been disclosed.

“The new Audi R8 will deliver exactly what customers expect from a high-performance sports car. This car brings our concentrated motorsport competence from the racetrack to the road,” says Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi Board Member for Technical Development.

As we’ve covered previously during the 2016 R8’s unveil in conjunction with the Geneva Motor Show, this generation will be all-V10 powered but in differing levels of tune, of course. The base R8 squeezes 533hp from its 5.2-litre naturally aspirated engine, enabling 0-100km/h time of just 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 323km/h.

The V10 Plus, naturally, turns up those numbers with a more powerful engine at 602hp, a faster century sprint at 3.2 seconds and a higher top speed of 330km/h, making it the fastest production Audi yet. Of course, it’s not all about the figures, and the V10 Plus model gets extras that the base R8 just isn’t allowed to wear. This all-new R8 will also feature Audi's laser headlight tech. 

Either way, you’re getting a howlingly fast, very premium car.

Both the V10 and V10 Plus use a 7-Speed S Tronic double-clutch transmission as that sends power from the engine to the wheels through a new version of Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system.
