2015 Renault Clio GT Line Previewed At Pavilion KL: Tentative Price From RM118k

TC Euro Cars, the official distributor of Renault vehicles in Malaysia, held a preview for the new Renault Clio GT Line at Pavilion KL today.

The Clio GT Line is targeted at customers who love the sporty look of the full-on Renault Sport model aka the Clio R.S. 200, but can make do without the high performance powertrain found in the hot hatch.

Tentative prices for the Renault Clio GT Line is around RM118,000 and we’ve been told that the vehicle will be officially launched sometime within Q4 2015.

Currently, the only Clio variant available in Malaysia is R.S. 200 priced from RM166,888, and with the introduction of the GT Line, customers who have had their eye on owning a Clio but were put off by the high entry point will certainly be enticed now.

Performance:

Under the hood is 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol powerplant that outputs 118hp at 4,900 rpm and peak torque at 190Nm from as low as 2,000 rpm. The TCe 120 engine when mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 9.4 seconds and on the efficiency side of things, offers a claimed fuel consumption of 5.2L/100km. Top speed is 199 km/h.

On the handling front, the Clio GT Line features Macpherson struts for the front suspensions while the rear gets a programmed-deflection torsion beam with coil springs and an anti-roll bar.

Exterior Design

As you can see, the Renault Clio GT Line adopts the same hatchback body shape as its R.S. sibling with a five-door layout, but with a few minor styling tweaks.

The familiar front fascia is highlighted by the prominent Renault logo, flanked by the halogen headlights. On the lower edge of the bumper are a set of LED daytime-running lights with chrome accents surrounding it, replacing the R.S. one's, which are blackened out. 

At the rear, a different rear bumper (with rear parking sensors) design is seen with body-coloured side protective mouldings with dark metal insert, dark metal door mirror housing, and extra-tinted rear glass. The exhaust tip count now stands at one compared to the two on the R.S. A spoiler mounted on the hatch is seen here as well, along with new 17-inch five-spoke alloys (wrapped in 205/45 size tyres) and GT Line badging on the tailgate. The side mirrors are also silver instead of black on the high-performance variant.

Interior Design

It’s much the same story on the inside as well, with the dashboard trim finished in grey, with a seven-inch MediaNav multimedia unit that handles infotainment duties. Elsewhere, a telescopic sports steering wheel is trimmed in leather and black gloss features on-wheel controls, while Renault Sport-badged door sill guards are adopted from the R.S. model for the GT Line as well. An automatic climate control unit is also part of the standard package, as are 60:40 split rear folding seats. Renault also boast its Bass Reflex system that is integrated into the front doors' speakers to deliver a more enjoyable aural experience from the infotainment unit. 

Safety Features

Boasting an impressive five-star EuroNCAP rating, the Clio GT Line is supplemented by four airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Roll Movement Intervention, Hill Start Assist, ABS and Emergency Brake Assist. Three-point ISOFIX child seats are available as well and the car has been designed to offer pedestrian protection, reducing the risk of impact injury.

Other Features

Coming as standard are automatic headlights and wipers, keyless entry with engine start/stop, and for long distance driving, cruise control with a speed limited function. Drivers will benefit from the electrically-assisted power steering (EPS) and a quicker steering rack, offering the car with a 10.6-metre turning circle.

Other Information

Four colours are offered here – Diamond Black, Glacier White, Malta Blue, and Flame Red, with the latter being a RM5,000 option.
