2015 BMW 5 Series 520d Sport Launched In Malaysia: RM355k, Limited To 50 Units
购买指南In conjunction with the BMW Malaysia Open 2015 tennis tournament, BMW Group Malaysia are taking the opportunity to showcase a new variant of its 5 Series sedan: the 5 Series 520d Sport.
Where the base 520d retailed at RM354,800, the new Sport variant has been introduced at the same price, continuing to be a locally-assembled (CKD) model in Malaysia, but now offering a few additional equipment poured over from the range-topping 5 Series.
The new 520d Sport in the spec you’ll see listed here, will however only be limited to a 50 unit run beginning April 1st, 2015. You may want to hurry and place your bookings, now.
To accompany the new variant is the BMW brand’s latest 2.0-litre TwinPower turbo-diesel engine, the B47, which replaces the previous N47 – the engine is also available locally in the latest X3.
Apart from the new engine, the BMW 520d Sport continues to drive its rear wheels via an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission. However, courtesy of the new engine, the 520d now produces 6hp and 20Nm of torque more than before. Here’s a quick look at the car’s performance specifications:
- Power: 190hp @ 4,000rpm
- Torque: 400Nm @ 1,750 to 2,750rpm
- 0-100km/h: 7.7 seconds (0.2 seconds faster than before)
- Top speed: 233km/h (2km/h faster)
- Fuel consumption: 4.1-litres/100km (claimed, combined) (4.5-litres/100km before)
- CO2 emissions: 109g/km (10g/km less)
So What’s New?
Carrying forward all that we’ve seen on the base 520d since the facelift was launched in 2013, highlights of the new 520d Sport variant specifically are:
- M Aerodynamic exterior package (new to the 520d)
- 18-inch Double-spoke light alloy wheels (previously multi-spoke design)
- Adaptive LED headlights (previously available)
- Dynamic Damping Control (adaptive damping)
- M leather steering wheel (new to the 520d)
- Multifunctional Instrument Display (10.5-inch digital instrument cluster) (previously available)
It’s a bit unfortunate that only 50 units of the car will be available, because this 520d Sport is one to properly give the hot-selling, excise-duty-exempted Mercedes-Benz E 300 BlueTec Hybrid a run for its money.
Things like the M Aerodynamic package, 18-inch Double-spoke light alloy wheels and Dynamic Damping Control have in the past been reserved purely for the upper variants, and it’s a steal that they’ve made it into the base 5 Series.
Everything else that was made available to the 520d during its LCI update (Life Cycle Impulse) is still available, where you’ll see things like the Adaptive LED headlamps, new taillight design, etc.
What happens after the 50 units are sold?
Unfortunately, the 520d Sport will be limited to 50 units in total, after which, we understand that items like the Dynamic Damping Control and M Aerodynamic Exterior Package will be removed, reverting the 520d Sport back to being a regular 520d again. On the bright side, the latest BMW B47 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo will remain. And, you can always spec the car back up to what you see here, through BMW's Original Accessories.
The RM354,800 price for the BMW 520d Sport is inclusive of the car the BMW Service + Repair Inclusive (BS+RI).
