Volkswagen Scirocco GTS Will Debut At The 2015 Shanghai Auto Show

The new Volkswagen Scirocco GTS will make its official debut at next week’s 2015 Shanghai Auto Show.

Firstly, some history. The Scirocco GTS has existed since way back in 1982 and was related to the Golf GTI of its time, both technically and visually. In the case of the new Scirocco GTS, it gains a visual package only because the current-generation Scirocco is already offered with the Golf GTI’s engine of the same output.

And that engine beneath that distinctive GTS-striped hood is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with direct injection, providing 220PS. As standard, the engine is paired to a six-speed manual transmission with the option of a six-speed DSG one as well.

Both the manual and DSG will get the Scirocco GTS to 100 km/h from a standstill in just 6.5 seconds but will go on to achieve different top speeds – 246 km/h in the manual and 244 km/h in the DSG. Volkswagen also claim the manual gearbox allows the GTS to achieve a fuel economy of 6.1 litres/100 km while the DSG does 6.4 litres/100 km.

The visual enhancements begin from the outside with a GTS stripe that runs from the front of the car all the way to the end of the rear hatch. 18-inch ‘Norwich’ alloy wheels will come as standard while larger 19-inch ‘Lugano’ ones will be available as an option. Red-painted brake callipers are also visible as well along with ‘GTS’ badging.

Volkswagen’s Scirocco GTS comes with the R-Line package which adds on a body kit comprising new bumpers at the front and rear, gloss black grille and side mirrors, side skirts, and roof spoiler. Six body colours are available: Deep Black, Indium Grey, Urano Grey, Pure White, Oryx White and, Flash Red.

The interior sports contrast red stitching on the black interior and more notably, a golf ball gear knob that is commonly found in the Golf GTI. Elsewhere, various areas are finished in ‘black piano lacquer’ and the ‘GTS’ logo can be found on the seats, side panel mouldings.
