Volkswagen Launches Tiguan Allspace Seven Seater, From RM 165,000
Auto NewsThe Volkswagen range in Malaysia just got a seven-seater addition in the form of a stretched Tiguan with three rows of seats. We’re excited.
A couple of years ago, the only way you could get a long wheel base Tiguan was if you lived in China. It seems the Chinese appetite for stretched cars has translated well to other markets, because just two years ago Volkswagen officially launched the Tiguan Allspace in Australia, followed by Indonesia in 2019 and India earlier in the year.
If you haven’t guessed it yet, the Tiguan Allspace is effectively a stretched Tiguan that accommodates up to seven occupants courtesy of a third row of seats. The third row of seats can be folded flat if you need the extra boot space, offering up to 700 litres with the third row dropped, and a whopping 1,775 litres with the second row collapsed as well.
What’s really cool about the introduction to Malaysia is that Volkwagen has decided to bring back the 220 PS, 350 Nm 2.0 TSI variant with the Tiguan Allspace R-Line – something we haven’t seen since the first generation Tiguan was introduced here. The more potent model packs a seven-speed wet-clutch DSG dual clutch transmission and the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system, as well as Dynamic Chassis Control and Driving Mode Selection for better control over various suspension and driving functions. There’s even an Off-Road mode if you really need it.
The entry level variant for the Tiguan Allspace is the Highline, and that comes with the more familiar 1.4 TSI engine that pushes 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque to the front wheels through a six-speed wet-clutch DSG dual-clutch transmission. That being said, even the Highline version comes very generously equipped – standout features are the:
- 11.7-inch digital cockpit instrument cluster
- 8-inch Composition Media head unit with eight speakers
- Reverse Camera
- 12-way adjustable electric driver’s seat
- Three-zone Climatronic air conditioning
- Automatic Headlights and Wipers
- Full LED headlights
- Keyless entry with push start
- Leather steering wheel with paddle shifters
- Cruise Control
- 18-inch alloy wheels
- Vienna Leather interior
The R-Line model goes even further, and not just with the expected R-Line interior and exterior trim pieces. For the extra money, you get:
- 9.2-inch Discover Pro head unit
- Navigation with 3D view
- 19-inch alloy wheels
Pricing for these two models stands at RM 165,000 for the Highline variant and RM 209,575 for the R-Line variant – on the road, without insurance, and with the current sales tax exemption for 2020. This is very competitive pricing when you consider that there’s no other seven-seater that offers this level of performance for the money, as well as Volkswagen’s excellent ride and handling qualities.
