Video: 2016 Volkswagen Passat B8 Sneak Preview

Volkswagen is getting ready to launch its all-new 2016 Passat B8 in Malaysia; ahead of its launch, Carlist.my was able to obtain a unit of the top-spec Passat 2.0 TSI for a sneak preview video produced in collaboration with our friends from Autofreaks.com, Malaysian EVO, and Roda Pusing.

The video features our man Arvind sharing screen time with Chris Wee of Autofreaks, Keegan of Evo, and Hisham of Roda Pusing in examining the upcoming new Passat B8 inside out. In the video, we also brought along the outgoing Passat B7 to illustrate how the B8 has advanced over its predecessor.

The Passat B8 is all-new from ground up; but much like the Golf which it loosely shares its MQB platform with, the Passat carries only an evolutionary appearance over its predecessor. The fascia and silhouette are instantly familiar, although the new car sits wider and lower to the ground for a more dynamic appearance. Its wheelbase is lengthened by 80mm over the B7 model.

Under the hood, the new Passat B8 gets what effectively is the propulsion unit of the Golf GTI - the EA888 2.0-litre TSI engine pushing out 220PS and 350Nm to the front wheels through a 6-speed wet dual clutch transmission. Volkswagen’s XDS+ electronic differential is thrown in as well for improved high-speed cornering.

Inside, Volkswagen has lined the Passat’s cabin with a selection of very fine materials and features that pits the Passat in competition with premium brands. Major highlight of the cabin is the Active Info Display – a 12.3-inch TFT monitor serving as a virtual instrument cluster.
