Toyota Sienta To Launch In Malaysia In Late-2016?

Auto News

Following the revelation by RHB Research that the all-new Toyota Hilux, Innova and Fortuner will be launched in Malaysia in Q2 and Q3 this year, the research house have also hinted that an unnamed passenger model will be joining Toyota’s local line-up in late-2016.

While RHB’s Equity Focus report did not provide any further details, we hesitate a guess that it could be the all-new Toyota Sienta, Toyota’s closest answer to the over-achieving Honda HR-V.

Like the HR-V, the Sienta is a rather ‘lifestyle’ focused vehicle (an overused marketing term that basically means anything youthful but still practical) based a smaller B-segment passenger car platform.

A heavily disguised prototype of the Sienta was spotted in Thailand last year, and the car is rumoured to be planned for a late-2016/early-2017 launch.

The Sienta is already on sale in Japan, powered by either a 1.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid 1NZ-FXE engine from the Prius c, or a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle 2NR-FKE engine from the Japanese market Corolla. We don’t think these two engines will be offered here but a 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i unit, expected to debut in Malaysia later this year in the new Vios (facelift) could be a potential candidate.
