Toyota Mirai Has A Range Of 502KM On A Single Fill Of Hydrogen

The Toyota Mirai is the world’s first mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle and promises to provide the same capabilities of a regular petrol powered car except being zero emission.

Recently, at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Aspen, Colorado, Toyota North America CEO Jim Lentz announced that the Mirai is capable of an EPA-estimated 67 miles per gallon equivalent (mpge) city/highway/combined. That roughly translates to a 4.2 litres per 100 km equivalent, giving the Mirai an estimated driving range of 502 km.

Imagine that, 502 km on a single fill of hydrogen which takes about three minutes to do, similar to a conventional petrol powered car. The four-door, mid-size sedan Mirai is capable of generating electricity on demand using just hydrogen, oxygen, and a fuel cell, with the only emission being water vapour. Looks like hydrogen could very well be the fuel of the future.
