Tokyo 2017: Daihatsu DN Trec Concept – The Next Perodua SUV?
Auto NewsDaihatsu enters this year’s 2017 Tokyo Motorshow with a line-up of concept vehicles that envision the future developments of the company, based on its Monodukuri technologies for creating high-quality vehicles at reasonable prices – one such highlight is the DN Trec SUV concept.
Designed as a compact, stylish SUV suitable for both daily use and those with active lifestyles – the DN Trec does draw significant parallels to the 5-seater variants of the discontinued Terios models, which was marketed in Malaysia as the Perodua Nautica.
The DN Trec measures 3,980 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width and 1,600 mm in height – which is in the ballpark of the Daihatsu Terios/ Perodua Nautica which measures 4115 mm in length, 1695 mm in width and 1740 mm. The concept is likewise designed to seat five.
The DN Trec features a 1,200 cc hybrid powertrain, with the option of a 1,000 cc turbo, similar to that of the DN Compagno four-door coupe concept vehicle.
Daihatsu claims The DN Trec boasts a high-quality, compact interior and which embody the themes of “active, fun and tough”.
Daihatsu also confirmed that moving forward, the company aims to develop even higher-quality vehicles at more affordable prices based on the "realization of its Daihatsu New Global Architecture ( DNGA ) which mirrors the global platform concept of its parent company Toyota's TNGA.
