That’s RM286k For A Perodua Aruz 1.5 X In Singapore

Auto News

As much as we (justifiably) complain at the cost of new vehicles sold in Malaysia, our neighbours to the south, Singapore, has it much worse. Case in point: the Perodua Aruz has recently been launched in the island nation for the sharp on-the-road price of 92,999 Singapore Dollars.

Based on current currency conversion rates, that’s about RM286,409 for a seemingly entry-level Aruz 1.5 X. That’s more than 4 times the price it is sold in here - RM68,526, if you were wondering - and that’s inclusive of the certificate of entitlement (COE) and GST. That's about the same price you'll pay for the recently launched BMW X3 sDrive20i.

Mind you, that’s the sole variant available through distributors Perocom Auto, so Singaporean buyers won’t be treated to the added equipment, leather seats, and safety features such as A.S.A 2.0 present in the range-topping the Aruz 1.5 AV.

In this off-shore appearance, the Aruz looks to have gone through a total of zero alterations over the units that we’re familiar with. Both arrive from its origin of manufacture in Rawang powered by a naturally aspirated 2NR-VE 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with 102PS and 133Nm of torque.

The 7-seater cross-MPV is built on a body-on-frame chassis and therefore sends drive to the rear wheels via a four-speed torque converter-type automatic transmission. Each Aruz 1.5 X comes with a set of 17-inch alloy wheels in 215/60 tyres and available in the same spread of 4 exterior body colours: Granite Grey, Electric Blue, Glittering Silver, and Ivory White.

Other standard features include LED headlights, reversing camera, push start button, and a multimedia system with 6 speakers. On the safety front, there are 6 airbags alongside anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD), traction control, vehicle stability control, seat belt reminders, and ISOFIX mounting points. Each comes with a 5-year or 100,000km warranty.

Perodua president and chief executive officer, Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad, said: "With nearly 58,000 units sold in Malaysia since its debut in 2019, the Perodua Aruz was Malaysia's best-selling sports utility vehicle overall in 2019 and 2020. We are looking forward to sharing Aruz's space, safety, versatility, durability, practicality, and fuel efficiency with our southern neighbours.”
