Thailand Now Sells Cheaper Mercedes-Benz CLS, Thanks To Local Assembly

The new Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class joins an ever-growing list of locally assembled upper-end models in Mercedes-Benz Thailand line-up.

Through the assembly of the vehicle at the company’s plant in Samut Prakan, Thailand, the price of the stylish 4-door coupe has reduced from THB 4.98 million to THB 4.39 million, a drop of almost THB 600,000, as reported by the Bangkok Post.

The CLS 300d is equipped with a new-generation 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine. Engine outputs are 245 hp and a massive 500 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with the 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission driving only the rear wheels.

In Malaysia, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia offers the range of the new CLS in three engine variations, all fully-imported from Germany. The 2-litre CLS 350 is priced from RM570,888, while the 3-litre CLS 450 4Matic is priced from RM698,888.

The performance-oriented, 435 hp Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 4Matic meanwhile starts from RM878,888.

BMW Malaysia meanwhile offers the locally-assembled 630i GT M Sport, priced from RM430,800. The four-cylinder 2-litre petrol engine outputs 258 hp and 400 Nm of torque channel drive to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission.
