Ever since Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz officially confirmed that Tesla would be setting up shop in Malaysia, there's been a lot of curiosity as to why Tesla has chosen us. Well apparently, one of the reasons why Tesla has decided to proceed to have an official presence here in Malaysia is due to our strong ecosystem in electrical, and electronic components manufacturing. According to a report by Bernama, Zafrul said we have the right ecosystem to support electric vehicle manufacturing as we are the world's seventh largest producer in the electrical and electronics (E&E) sector in addition to semiconductors which are essential components in any EV manufacturing. "When talking about EV manufacturing, companies like Tesla will invest here because we have an ecosystem in E&E. The most interesting factor about Malaysia is, when you look at the ecosystem for E&E, it can support the EV industry". "For example, Tesla says that a relatively large part of their supply chain is from Malaysia, so why don't they move here," he said at a press conference recently.
