Spyshot: Geely Boyue Caught Benchmarking Against Honda CR-V And Last Gen VW Tiguan
Auto NewsBenchmarking against competition happens more often than you would imagine, as car manufacturers often use competitor models to gauge various parameters of their upcoming vehicles.
As posted by our friends over at Careta, Proton engineers appear to be busy benchmarking the Geely Boyue against the current generation Honda CR-V and previous generation Volkswagen Tiguan.
At this point of time, it is unknown if the competitors were used to gauge the drivetrain performance or the interior aspects of the upcoming Boyue SUV.
Careta's report also mentions that Proton’s Director of Group Quality, Ogawa Masazumi was present during the session, hinting that Proton is serious about nailing the Boyue’s quality. Masazumi-san was previously from Nissan, where he held several positions over the 30 year period he was there before joining Proton in 2016.
To recap, Proton’s first-ever SUV will be based on the Geely Boyue, Geely’s fourth SUV in its line up. In China, the Geely Boyue is offered with two engines, namely a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with two states of tune. In total, Geely offers 13 variants of the Boyue SUV for the Chinese market.
