Spyshot: All-New 2017 Mazda CX-5 Tentative Specs Revealed

The second-generation all-new 2017 Mazda CX-5 will be introduced in Malaysia real soon, as Mazda dealers have already posted photos and tentative details of the upcoming SUV on Facebook.

We understand that Bermaz has slated five variants to launch with the new CX-5. The range will carry over the current model's powertrains; the base 2.0-litre model will come with a choice of two trim levels, followed by a single 2.5-litre petrol variant, and a pair of 2.2-litre diesel models.

Equipment levels of the 2.0-litre petrol Mid Spec model are unknown to us at this stage, but we do know that the 2.0-litre petrol High Spec 2WD will come with the following items:

• Walk Away Lock
• 225/65R17 wheels
• Dual-zone auto climate control
• Rear air vents
• 10-way power adjustable driver seat
• Leather upholstery
• MZD Connect with 7-inch display
• 6 Speakers
• 4 USB ports (2 front and 2 rear)
• Mazda G-Vectoring Control (GVC)
• Cruise control
• 6 Airbags
• ABS with EBD, DSC, ESS
• Adaptive Front-Lighting Control (AFS)
• Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM)
• Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
• Smart City Brake Support (Forward direction only)

Moving one level up is the Mazda CX-5 2WD 2.5-litre. This variant could potentially add:

• 225/55R19 wheels 
• LED headlights with Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS), Auto On/Off and Auto Leveling
• LED daytime running lights (DRLs)
• LED front fog lights
• LED tail lights with LED reverse lights
• Rear fog light
• Rain-sensing auto wipers
• All round parking sensors

Sitting right on top of the 2017 Mazda CX-5 range is the 2.2 Diesel variants, available in 2WD or 4WD flavours. Here, the range-topper potentially adds:

• Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
• Lane Keep Assist System (LKA)
• Smart City Brake Support (SCBS), Forward and Reverse direction
• Driver Attention Alert (DAA)

The entry-level Mazda CX-5 2.0L is going to feature a 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G four-cylinder petrol engine with 155 hp and 200 Nm. The second petrol engine is a 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G four-cylinder unit that does 185 hp and 250 Nm. The sole oil burner is a 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D four-cylinder diesel unit that churns out 173 hp and 420 Nm. All engines are paired to a six-speed automatic transmission that sends drive to the front wheels or all four wheels, depending on variant.

The all-new 2017 Mazda CX-5 will arrive in CKD form, as Bermaz will be skipping the interim CBU phase altogether. Several new colours are expected, including Soul Red Crystal, Deep Crystal Blue, Machine Grey, Snowflake White Pearl, Sonic Silver and Jet Black. Only Arctic White and Meteor Grey are carried over from the older model.
