This has proved to be a little more true as EV charging points were set up at Housing and Development Board multi-story car parks. Specifically, five locations were selected to start, three of which are in the Jurong West area, the others in Yishun and Ponggol, all under a tender by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), according to Channel News Asia. Minister of Transport S Iswaran made the announcement over his Facebook page days ago, saying: "These charging points will progressively become available for public use in the coming weeks,” noting that some 600 charging points would eventually be made available at more than 200 car parks by Q3 2022. Of course, the density of charging stations there is set to balloon with multiple consortiums that have been granted permission or similar tender to install and operate their own charging infrastructure. This is all in line with Singapore’s aim of establishing more than 60,000 EV charging points across the island by 2030 with 40,000 of that being in car parks while the remaining 20,000 in private premises. If Malaysia is to usher in a similar EV adoption boom with the groundwork laid by the mostly tax-free prices of new electric cars from 2022, how will it take to see more charging stations mushroom across the country?
