Auto News

Kia has unveiled the new Kia K3 and K3 Plug-in Hybrid – designed specifically for the Chinese market – at the ongoing Auto Shanghai 2019 motor show.

In addition to the efficient petrol and PHEV powertrains, the new K3 features a unique exterior design, spacious cabin space, and China-specific technologies and functionality.

The new K3 is offered with two petrol engines – a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated, and another 1.4-liter turbocharged (T-GDi) engine, in addition to the above mentioned PHEV variant.

Details on the PHEV powertrain are scarce at this point. However, Kia does sell PHEV versions of its Niro SUV in North America – which is powered by a 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated engine aided by a 59 kW electric motor (combined 139 hp/264 Nm); fed by an 8.9 kWh battery.

The PHEV K3 variant will feature unique ‘ECO plug-in’ badges on the outside, while its infotainment system enables users to search for nearby recharging locations.

The K3 will go on sale across China in the second quarter of 2019.
