Raids By Ministry Discovers Counterfeit Hyundai Parts
Auto NewsLast month, a raid by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives, and Consumerism Ministry discovered that some unscrupulous auto parts dealers have been selling fake Hyundai parts as genuine parts.
These counterfeit parts include oil filters, air filters, brake pads, and spark plugs, which are ‘fast moving parts’, a term used to describe parts that are replaced when a car is serviced. The news report by Malay Mail added that these counterfeit parts are sold at the same price as original parts to fool customers.
Jaeho Lee, the intellectual property manager of Hyundai Mobis said, “Hyundai Mobis views this offence of selling fake parts as very serious as is compromises the safety of the consumers.” Hyundai Mobis is the original manufacturer of these parts.
In an effort to prevent customers from getting cheated, Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) is offering up to 20% discount on selected genuine parts until 31 July 2018 when customers send their vehicles in for servicing at authorized service centres.
Mr Dennis Ho, Managing Director of Sime Darby Motors (Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan) said, “Continuous education on the safety hazards of using counterfeit parts is important. Customers can be assured that authorised service centres use only genuine parts and can offer customers a peace of mind when it comes to the safety of their vehicles.”
