Proton's official distributor and assembler in Pakistan, Al-Haj Automotive who is famous for introducing the Proton X70 there last year, has just launched the Proton Saga as well, which interestingly includes a manual Saga R3 which is not available here on home ground. Al-Haj Automotive will be offering five variants of the Saga, including the range-topping Saga Ace AT, Saga MT and AT, as well as the limited-edition Saga R3 in either manual or automatic. The top-spec Ace AT is kitted out similarly as the 1.3L Premium AT in Malaysia, while the Saga MT and AT also mimics Malaysia's 1.3L Standard AT and MT. However, the engines in these top and entry-spec Pakistani Sagas have smaller displacements than those we get in Malaysia. They feature a displacement of 1,299cc (S4PE engine 91 hp and 120 Nm of torque) as opposed to the 1,332cc we get here. According to Proton Pakistan, the move to include smaller engines in the Pakistani Sagas was carried out to help make them more competitively priced, thanks to tax breaks. The Pakistani Saga R3 on the other hand, is a whole different beast as they do feature the 1,332cc engine we get in Malaysia. They are equipped similarly to the 1.3L Premium AT Saga we get over here, which also includes cues from the Sepang 1000KM race car, such as front spoiler lip, side skirts and accents in the official yellow R3 colour. Only 100 units of the Saga R3 will be offered in Pakistan. All Sagas will come with a five-year/150,000-km warranty as standard, one of the first from any car brand in Pakistan. The Saga R3 manual is priced at PKR2.175 million (RM59k), while the automatic version goes for PKR2.425 million (RM66k). The Ace AT is priced at PKR2.225 million (RM60k). The entry-level Saga MT is priced at PKR1.975 million (RM54k), while its AT sibling is priced at PKR2.125 million (RM58k).
