Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Unveiled in Malaysia – A Car You Can, But Probably Won’t Bother Buying

Sime Darby Auto Performance, the authorised distributor of Porsche vehicles in Malaysia took the wraps off the the Cayman GT4 Clubsport a couple a days ago at the Sepang International Circuit.

Basically a stripped down, full-fledged racing version of the Cayman GT4, the Clubsport, which is often dubbed as a baby GT3 Cup car, is powered by the same 3.8-litre flat-six engine (capable of kicking out 385hp and 420Nm of peak torque) as the GT4.

However, unlike the GT4 which is fitted with a six-speed manual, the Clubsport comes with a 6-speed dual-clutch PDK automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. In addition, the car also features a mechanical rear-axle locking differential.

As much as the damping department is concerned, both front and rear suspension were taken from its larger 911 GT3 Cup brother while the racing brake system is fitted with steel brake discs all round measuring 380-millimetre in diameter.

Since it’s a race car, the Cayman GT4 Clubsport, tipping the scales at just 1,300 kilograms, comes standard with a welded-in safety cage, a racing bucket seat as well as a six-point harness.

"With the 2017 Blancpain GT Asia series now offering a GT4-category, customers have the opportunity to participate in this series within the Asia continent." said Earl Bamber, Porsche Works Driver who was also present during the unveiling.

He added that four race teams had already confirmed their participation using the GT4 Clubsport.

Now, in case you’re having dreams about purchasing the Cayman GT4 Clubsport, driving it to the track, racing it, and driving it back home, forget about it – as this is a full blown race car and it is not road legal unlike many clubsport models by other manufacturers.
