Polestar 1 Production Commences
Auto NewsVolvo’s performance arm, Polestar, has begun production of the new Polestar 1.
Production of the first 34 units of road-going verification prototypes (VP) cars has started in Polestar’s specialized prototype production facility in Gothenburg. The Gothenburg-built Polestar 1 units are destined for crash tests, weather testing, and on-road assessment.
Polestar will then transfer the new specialized production equipment and construction knowledge for the carbon fibre-body of the Polestar 1 to Chengdu for the production of customer cars. The Polestar 1 also marks the first time Volvo Car Group’s into utilizing carbon fibre construction for their vehicles.
Thomas Ingenlath, Chief Executive Officer of Polestar said, “The assembly of the VP cars means that the Polestar 1 has taken its next step towards production. This first batch of 34 cars will enable our engineers to tune the finer details of the car, ensuring that the Polestar 1 is perfect when we start to produce customer cars in the middle of next year.”
