Peugeot Can Now Test Self-Driving Cars In China

Auto News

The local authorities in Chongqing, China, has granted Groupe PSA the license to test autonomous vehicles.

Groupe PSA, owners of Peugeot, is the first French carmaker to achieve this feat in China. The company said the experiences and technologies gained in Europe will be adapted to meet the Chinese market needs.

The test vehicle is none other than the popular Peugeot 4008 SUV, a product made with Dong Feng, Peugeot’s Chinese joint-venture partner.

The five-seater Peugeot 4008 slots in between the 3008 and 5008 in dimensions, with a wheelbase stretching 2,730 millimetres.

Carla Gohin, Vice President, Innovation of Groupe PSA, commented, ”This marks an important step for our AVA (Autonomous Vehicle for All) program, which aims to provide safe and intuitive autonomous cars for all customers. From this fresh start, we’ll continuously bring our cutting edge technology to Chinese customers.”

Other European automotive brands that have received permits earlier are Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz
