Known as the Daihatsu Rocky and Toyota Raize in Japan, we first spotted the D55L SUV in all its glory at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show, where word also got out that the Perodua D55L SUV is slated to be launched in Malaysia sometime in the second half of this year, which is like anytime now. So, since the launch could be happening within the coming months, here’s a recap on what could be headed our way. Under the hood, we expect the D55L, which is underpinned by the DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform, to be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine, producing 98 PS and 140 Nm of maximum torque. Paired to the engine is a CVT transmission which sends power exclusively to the front wheels. Measuring 3,995 mm long, 1,695 mm wide, 1,620 mm tall, with a 2,525 mm wheelbase, the D55L, or the Rocky which we saw in Japan, is 100 mm longer, 105 mm taller, and 40 mm narrower than the Perodua Myvi. The wheelbase length is 25 mm longer than the Myvi’s. As for the weight, the SUV weighs 30kg less than the Myvi. In terms of features, we can expect the following, but keep in mind that nothing is confirmed as of now: LED headlights with DRLs Auto start stop Parking sensors Heated seats 360-degree camera Voice command 17-inch wheels Two-tone exterior paint job Touch-screen infotainment system a rugged bodykit 6 airbags 370-litre boot Digital Instrument Cluster Adaptive Cruise Control In a nutshell, the D55L SUV is pretty much a jacked up version of the Myvi with some added goodies, offering those who are looking for an affordable SUV, with a very decent package. However, the exact set of features and specifications for the Malaysian market has not been confirmed as of yet.
