Paris 2018: Porsche Will Build 1,948 Of These 911 Speedsters

As is the way with Porsche, there will be a limited run of the recently unveiled 911 Speedster Concept that makes it into production. The magic number is 1,948, which is significant for the fact that the original Porsche 356 Speedster received its operating license back on June 8th, 1948 - 70 years before the unveiling of this new concept back in June. The second study of the model was brought to the Paris Motor Show, completed in an alluring Guards Red.

Production for the all-new model is slated to start in 2019, being a development between Porsche Motorsport, Style Porsche, and Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. Based on the 991 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, this will be the first model to have the Heritage Design Package on offer.

A number of elements on this model are inspired by racing components on the original Speedster, but the most iconic element of all is the fact that it's a fixed open-top two-seater vehicle. More modern elements would be items like the 21-inch centre-lock cross spoke wheels, along with the carbon fibre body panels that were lifted from a 991 GT3.

The engine is no regular Carrera engine either, being a naturally-aspirated flat-six with a redline of 9,000 rpm, an output of over 500 hp, a titanium exhaust system, and a 6-speed manual gearbox. It's clear to see why Porsche Motorsport still has a hand in developing this unique model.
