New York 2017: Nissan GT-R Track Edition All Set For U.S. Debut
Auto NewsNissan’s stalwart supercar-killer, the GT-R, which has been around since 2008, will receive its fastest version yet, with the limited production GT-R Track Edition set to be unveiled at the upcoming New York International Auto Show next month.
The track-ready GT-R retains the Touring's models engine tune with the VR38DETT 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 producing 565bhp, versus the GT-R Nismo’s 600hp version. The engine is mated to a sequential-shift six-speed automatic transmission which now uses a high-performance differential oil, standard for GT-R competition applications. A titanium exhaust system is standard too.
The new GT-R Track Edition will feature performance-oriented features such as the body’s additional adhesive bonding (in addition to spot welding), which helps increase body shell rigidity.
The advanced 4-wheel independent suspension receives unique Nismo tuning, with reduced weight and additional roll stiffness, as well as Nismo-spec tyres.
Other standard equipment includes GT-R Nismo front fenders, 20-inch Nismo forged aluminium-alloy wheels and a special dry carbon-fiber rear spoiler. Inside, the Track Edition interior includes a unique red and black colour treatment with high-grip Recaro seats.
The new simplified switch dashboard layout, along with an 8-inch capacitive touch panel monitor are among the new enhancements. Paddle shifters located behind the steering wheel are standard fare as well.
The GT-R Track spec is the third model in the GT-R line-up after the GT-R Premium and GT-R Nismo, and will go on sale in U.S. in Q3 of 2017 at a price of USD127,990.
