New Vios Becomes First Model To Be Produced In Toyota Assembly Plant In Klang
Auto NewsThe new Toyota Vios, which was launched by UMW Toyota Motor earlier today, is the first model to roll out from the company’s new manufacturing plant in Kawasan Perindustrian Bukit Raja, Klang.
Built in line with the Malaysian government’s direction of new vehicle production in the country, the plant, in which UMWT invested about RM 2 billion, happens to be one of the most modern, advanced, and efficient Toyota plants in the world.
“This is the future of Toyota production in Malaysia. The plant is highly automated to ensure high quality vehicles are produced with better efficiency. Many local engineers and technicians were also sent to Japan to undergo production training to upgrade their skills to perform at their best at the new plant,” said Akio Takeyama, Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor.
Located at the Bukit Raja Industrial Estate in Klang, Selangor, the plant, which covers approximately 670,000 square metres, is capable of producing 50,000 vehicles per year at the moment (initial phase).
Operations officially commenced on 2nd January 2019, and the first vehicle was lined off on the 10th of January 2019.
It is said that the new state-of-the-art Bukit Raja plant will focus on producing passenger cars including energy efficient vehicle (EEV) models in the future, and rumour has it that upcoming models expected to roll out from Klang includes the new Yaris, and maybe the new RAV4.
Meanwhile, the existing assembly plant in Shah Alam will continue operations as usual, producing IMV and commercial vehicles comprising SUV, MPV, and 4x4 models like the Hilux, Fortuner, and the Hiace.
