New Mazda 6 and CX-8 Coming Soon

Auto News

The new Mazda 6 flagship sedan, only recently revealed at the LA Auto Show last November, and the new 3-row Mazda CX-8 SUV are coming to Malaysia, after making their presence in the Philippines.

This is according to sources familiar with Bermaz Auto Berhad, the official distributor of Mazda vehicles and spare parts in Malaysia and the Philippines.

According to RHB Research, Bermaz Auto Berhad is set to shift into the next phase of growth. Since the launch of the popular all-new Mazda CX-5 in October 2017, the share price of Bermaz Auto has risen nearly 10%, closing at RM2.29 as of end of trading on Friday.

The stronger Ringgit is also a big contributing factor to a better 2018 for Bermaz Auto, as they export the CX-5 model to Thailand and the Philippines.

The new Mazda 6 updates the front and rear design, together with improved cabin materials as well as revised chassis dynamics for better ride comfort and refinement.

The current fully-imported Mazda 6 in Malaysia is offered in a range three engine choices, 2.0-litre and 2.5-litre petrol engines, and 2.2-litre diesel SkyActiv-D.

It is unknown if Bermaz Auto will be offering the new Mazda 6 later with the new 250 hp, 420 Nm 2.5 SkyActiv-G 2.5T direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine in the Malaysian market.

Meanwhile, the CX-8, recently launched in Japan, has a seat configuration of either a 6-seater, which customers can opt for captain seats on the second row, or a traditional bench for 7-seater arrangement.

Engine choice for Malaysia is expected to be limited to the 2.5-litre naturally aspirated, as the larger, CX-9 flagship SUV is already enjoying the turbocharged 2.5-litre engine.
