MITI Says Modern Proton Cars Are On Par With BMW, As Safe As Volvos
Auto NewsIn a report published by the Malay Mail Online, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) says that Proton has the capabilities to compete with international rivals and that the national carmaker is on the same level with premiums brands such as BMW.
Following a question from Batu Gajah MP, V. Sivakumar on whether Proton is capable of taking on imported cars, the ministry responded by saying that many of Proton’s new models were developed to feature advanced technology, high quality, and performance.
Models like the Proton Exora, Suprima S, and the recently-launched Iriz came equipped with safety packages that included anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake distribution (EBD) and brake assist, electronic stability control (ESC), and traction control (TC).
The ministry also cited other safety features such as ISOFIX child-seat mounting points, safety belts, and several airbags are among the common features that are found in premium imported cars. When paired to the brand’s “Lotus Ride and Handling”, this has helped improve the standard of Proton vehicles, the ministry claims.
Recently, the Proton Iriz managed achieved a five star rating from the Asean NCAP.
“This rating puts the Proton car models on par with other popular car makes like BMW, Volvo, Toyota and Honda,” the ministry said.
