MINI Malaysia Introduces The New MINI Convertible, RM 279,888

Following on from their celebration of 60 years of MINI, MINI Malaysia has launched the MINI Convertible in Malaysia in a singular variant. It shares the same engine as the Cooper S models, which is to say it pushes out a healthy 192 hp and 280 Nm of torque, allowing it to sprint to 100 km/h from a standstill in just 7.1 seconds. The price for all this is RM 279,888 - just RM 53,000 more than the Cooper S 3-door, and RM 43,000 more than the Cooper S 5-door.

Power is sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed Steptronic Sports automatic transmission - which is the same dual-clutch unit as the other variants. Suffice to say, the powertrain is as responsive as you would expect from such a lightweight and agile machine, offering enough performance to make life enjoyable even when zipping around town. Specific to this variant is active rollover protection that will protect occupants in the event of the vehicle overturning, along with the usual traction and stability control systems.

Colours for the model are fairly specific. Carribbean Aqua, as you see it here, is exclusive to the Convertible model, while Chilli Red, Solaris Orange, Melting Silver, and Starlight Blue are also available at the request of the customer. The interior trim features Leather Chester - a diamond-stitched saddle leather in Malt Brown - as well as Piano Black surfaces and a Nappa Leather steering wheel with aluminium coloured contrast stitching.

As for the top, it can be dropped in just 18 seconds at speeds of up to 30 km/h. The electrically operated system has three stages - open, closed, or sunroof - allowing for flexibility in utility. Further differentiating the model are the 17-inch rail spoke design wheels in Jet Black, although the LED headlights and tail lights are pretty much identical to the other variants available. Even the interior specifications mirror that of other models in the MINI range, which means you get a 6.5-inch Touch Screen Display front-and-centre, as well as MINI Connected services.

The celebratory offer provides owners with 60 months or 80,000km (whichever comes first) of Free Scheduled Service and 60 months of Warranty with Unlimited Mileage. For purchases after 31st August 2019, the New MINI Convertible will be available with the MINI 4 Years Unlimited Mileage Warranty with Free Scheduled Service.
