Auto News

The facelifted W176 Mercedes-Benz A-Class finally made its Malaysian debut earlier today at the brand’s showroom in Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.

First introduced in 2013, the car receives a series of updates revolving around the exterior, interior, as well as the features. Previously available in three trim levels, the big news about the updated A-Class is the introduction of a new variant – the A 180, which will be the new entry level A-Class.

That being said, the A-Class range now comprises:

  • A 180 – RM195,888
  • A 200 AMG Line – RM205,888
  • A 250 Sport – RM238,888
  • A 45 AMG – RM348,888

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia also announced that another variant – the limited Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 themed ‘Motorsport Edition’ is set to make its debut later this year. For those who have been wondering if the A220d will be making its way here, it will not.

While exterior updates include new LED headlights and tail lamps, redesigned front and rear bumpers, new mufflers, as well as the diamond grille which is offered as standard, changes in the cabin include new seats, larger 8-inch infotainment display, upgraded material, and new colour options.

Also standard in all variants is the Dynamic Select drive mode selector which replaces the outgoing Agility Select button. The selector allows drivers to choose between four different driving modes - Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual.

In terms of safety, all variants get seven airbags (A 45 AMG 4MATIC gets eight), an updated Collision Prevention Assist Plus system, Active Parking Assist and a rear-view camera.

Under the hood, the A 180 and the A 200 AMG are powered by the same 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. However, due to different tuning, the A 180 produces 122hp and 200Nm of torque while the A 200 AMG churns out 156hp and 250Nm of maximum torque.

The A 250 Sport on the other hand, is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged mill which enables the car to deliver 211hp and 350Nm of torque. Last but not least, hiding under the hood of the A 45 AMG 4MATIC is a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine which produces a massive 381hp and 475Nm of torque, which is 21hp more than the pre-facelift model.

While the A 180, A 200 AMG, and the A 250 Sport share the same 7G-DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission, the A 45 AMG’s engine is paired to AMG’s Speedshift DCT 7-speed sports transmission.

In an effort to make things flexible for customers, MBM is offering the Hire Purchase Classic financial package with interest rate from as low as 2.18%. However, the package only applies to the A 180, A 200 AMG, and the A 250 Sport.
