Mercedes-AMG Unveils CLA 35 4Matic Compact Four-Door Coupe With 306 hp
Auto NewsRemember the gorgeous yellow Mercedes-AMG A35 hot hatch which was unveiled last year?
Well, the company has just unveiled the four-door coupe version of the car, the Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 4Matic.
Mechanically, the CLA 35 is identical to its hatchback sibling, with power coming from the same M260 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that does 306 hp and 400 Nm, sent to all four wheels via the AMG Speedshift 7G dual-clutch transmission and the company’s 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
The only difference is that the CLA 35 does the century sprint in 4.9 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds slower compared to the A35’s 4.7 seconds.
The variable AMG Performance 4MATIC combines the best possible traction with lots of driving fun. The torque distribution spectrum ranges from front-wheel drive only to a 50:50 percent distribution to the front and rear axles.
There are five drive programs to choose from – “Slippery", "Comfort", "Sport", "Sport +" and "Individual", offering a wide range of vehicle characteristics.
On the exterior, key features include frameless doors, wide wheel arches, a slim sporty waistline, two “powerdomes” on the bonnet, radiator grille with twin louvres, and AMG Line front apron with flics on the air inlets.
Other distinctive features include trim elements in silver chrome on the louvres in the outer air inlets, aerodynamically optimised 18-inch light-alloy wheels in twin-spoke design (19-inch optionally available), and the accentuated side sill panels.
The rear view is dominated by the rear apron with a new diffuser insert, the small spoiler lip on the boot, and the two round tailpipe trims on the left and right. The two-piece, narrow tail lamps and the number plate housed in the bumper make the rear of the CLA look especially wide.
Inside, the CLA 35 comes with dual 10.25-inch screens, MBUX infotainment system, sport seats, new AMG steering wheel, and an AMG-specific centre console in piano lacquer finish with a touchpad.
Also available as an option is the AMG Track Pace app which can store information such as throttle inputs, G-forces and lap times, and even display driving lines to help the driver learn a race track.
That said, the Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 will be making its world premiere at the upcoming New York Auto Show on 16th April.
