Auto News

Mercedes-AMG continues to fill niches in the market, first with the introduction of the AMG 43 line up. The Stuttgart-based company won't be stopping there, as they are said to be introducing the AMG 53 line up, starting with the upcoming all-new 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS.

While the all-new Mercedes-Benz CLS will go on sale in summer 2018, the exact timing of when the AMG 53 variant will go on sale in unknown.

According to Autonews, the new AMG 53 line will be powered exclusively by a new straight-six engine, codenamed M256. For the upcoming CLS53, the engine is said to output roughly 430 hp, likely mated to an electric motor in a hybrid configuration to improve efficiency.

Elsewhere, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS will be riding on the W213 E-Class' platform, codenamed Modular Rear Architecture (MRA). The MRA platform will allow the next-generation CLS to be longer and more spacious inside, whilst shaving precious kilograms in the process.

The Mercedes-AMG 53 moniker won't be limited to just the CLS. Sources also say that the E-Class will receive the AMG 53 variant, though limited to the coupe and convertible models. As for the E-Class sedan and wagon, these two mainstream models will be V8-powered AMG 63-only.
