Mazda CX-5 Updated With Turbocharged Power

Mazda has given its popular CX-5 a new heart, this time fitting its five-seater SUV with a turbocharged engine plucked from the bigger, seven-seater CX-9. 

The SkyActiv-G 2.5T in the new CX-5 does 230 PS and 420 Nm, identical to the output figures of the CX-9. Mazda’s SkyActiv-Drive six-speed automatic is the sole transmission option. The turbocharged CX-5 can be had either as a front-wheel drive model or all-wheel drive model. 

As for the diesel-powered model, Mazda is now offering a six-speed manual option, which can either send drive to the front wheels or all four wheels.

Apart from its new powertrain, the updated Mazda CX-5 range also receives the new G-Vectoring Plus, which now brakes the outside wheels lightly when exiting a corner, to reduce yaw, and thus reducing body sway of the occupants. 

In terms of safety, Mazda has updated the CX-5’s Advanced Smart City Braking Support (Advanced SCBS), now with night time pedestrian detection.

Last but not least, the Mazda Connect infotainment is now compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

These updates are currently exclusive to the Japanese market CX-5, though we expect Mazda to introduce the model globally in the next couple of months.
