LA 2017: 2019 Infiniti QX50 With World's First Variable Compression Engine Unveiled
Auto NewsIt has only been like a week since Infiniti unveiled the facelifted QX80 in Dubai, yet the brand has taken the wraps off another model at the Los Angeles Auto Show – the 2019 QX50 mid-size SUV.
Built on an all-new platform, the new QX50 is powered by the brand’s new 2.0-litre VC-Turbo four cylinder petrol engine which produces 268 hp and 380 Nm of torque. Paired to the engine is a CVT type gearbox, with front-wheel drive configuration as standard and AWD as an option.
The VC-Turbo engine also happens to be the first engine in the world to feature variable compression technology, which means that it can change its compression ratio on the fly, translating into smoother power delivery and better fuel economy.
According to Infiniti, the VC-Turbo engine is a compelling alternative to diesel, and challenges the notion that only hybrid and diesel powertrains can deliver high torque and efficiency.
Design wise, the new QX50 adapts the brand’s Powerful Elegance design language, featuring deep character lines that highlight the influence of human artistry in the design process.
Inside, the SUV features generous dose of leather and high quality materials, as well as silver metal and suede accents that complement the two-tone leather upholstery, making the cabin look very premium and also welcoming.
The QX50 also offers a package of technologies to enhance the driving experience such as the ProPILOT Assist technologies that react discreetly and autonomously to certain driving situations, supporting the driver with a range of "co-pilot" features.
Built in Mexico, the 2019 Infiniti QX50 will be arriving at showrooms around the world next year.
